Raiser Betsy took advantage of children's love of dogs to encourage a group of kids to improve their reading skills. Betsy organized the Doggy Tales Book Club with the help of our extended GEB family.
Raisers and their pups would meet each week at Betsy's house. Each pup had the same friend read to them in order to build a bond and help the child feel comfortable reading to their pup.
As a result of this program, Betsy said, "All the kids who joined the program were just learning how to read at a kindergarten level. Every child has progressed with leaps and bounds through the program. All the children are now very strong readers and are confident about their reading skills. They have learned to sound out words and are very capable readers by themselves."
At the conclusion of the program, each child received a picture with their reading buddy, a favorite book and a certificate.
